Yes it is indeed a legitimate and recognised therapeutic approach.
Developed by Bert Hellinger, it offers a unique and experiential method for exploring family dynamics and resolving intergenerational issues. While it may differ from traditional talk therapy, Family Constellations therapy has gained widespread acceptance and is practiced by trained professionals worldwide.
At its core, Family Constellations therapy acknowledges the interconnectedness of family systems and the impact of unresolved issues or traumas across generations. By embodying various family members or elements of a problem, participants gain insights from a new perspective, often leading to profound realizations and shifts in perception.
Family Constellations therapy is grounded in systemic theory, which emphasizes the importance of understanding the broader context in which issues arise. Through guided exercises and role-playing, facilitated by a trained practitioner, hidden dynamics within the family system are brought to light, offering a comprehensive and holistic approach to healing.
The effectiveness of Family Constellations therapy is supported by countless testimonials from individuals who have experienced profound shifts in their lives as a result of Constellation work. Whether it’s resolving relationship issues, healing ancestral trauma, or gaining clarity on life purpose, Family Constellations therapy has the power to catalyze deep and lasting change.
In conclusion, Family Constellations therapy is a legitimate and respected therapeutic modality that offers a unique approach to healing and transformation. By delving into the depths of family systems and uncovering hidden dynamics, Constellation work provides a pathway to healing, reconciliation, and personal growth.
If you’re curious about exploring the depths of your family system and unlocking new insights, Family Constellations therapy may be worth considering.
Lucy Ascham offers the work in person in Sheffield and Manchester UK for individuals and group workshops. Sometimes she uses small figures to help map out the people and elements of a seeker’s family system. Sometimes she’ll use pieces of paper with names / elements written on them so you can stand on them and feel what you notice in your body as you ‘step in’ to represent them. Working on Zoom with clients worldwide, the whiteboard is a useful device for Lucy to sketch stick figures and marks to express the people and elements and get them out of your body and onto the screen for a shared reality and to help organise them and demonstrate inner movements.
