Just when I thought I was getting things sorted, a few more parts came loose and I felt as if the wheels were falling off.
I’d set aside some time to sort out the clutter in my bedroom, sort out the DIY gear and start using this lovely new email system.
Then it snowed.
Which meant that 3 clients cancelled.
My son had a half day at school and came home for lunch.
And one headlight went on my car.
So why am I telling you this? Not for sympathy.
But to say “I get it
Life just got even messier.”
It can be similar when we start investigating pain, and where it comes from. You come with a sore head/neck/knee and as you become more aware of your body, start to notice hip pain, emotional pain and perhaps some feelings of hopelessness.
Did things really get worse?
Or is it your new awareness helping you notice the pile of messages from your body?
“At last!” says your body, “you are paying attention. There are a few things I’ve been trying to tell you!”
And out comes a whole pile of messages about old aches and pains you’ve ploughed on through.
So my son wanted to declutter his bedroom, and move a small bookshelf out to make room for his new gaming table. Great! I have plans for this bookshelf downstairs. Win:Win.
…until he clears off books, toys, pictures, nick nacks – and they end up on my bedroom floor!
Sigh. Don’t worry.
Remember, I have a plan.
It may take a little longer to sort even more things out, but sort things out, I will.
Then he needed a chair, a mouse mat, and we had a good clean and hoover whilst we were at it. More work. And together we made light work of it. It’s easier with two.
And now he has a lovely simple set up, no clutter, and is able to play his Xbox gaming with great pleasure.
Onto my car light, I went to Halfords for a new car headlight bulb, only to find out its not the bulb but a small plastic part with wires which has burnt out. Without this, my lights don’t work, and I can’t legally drive at night and its half term starting tomorrow and we’re going away.
I go to the garage. They may be able to fix it today, or maybe Monday. (I’m wondering about half term and my plans… and can feel my body tighten and feel stressed.)
I decide to take stock of me. Just here, just now.
Feet resting on the ground. Am I supported? Balancing? Breathing? Peripheral vision? Check. All ok. My body releases a small sigh of relief.
Fortunately, one of the mechanics, has a spare part, I head off for a coffee whilst I wait for it to be fixed, less than 30 minutes later they call and its ready.
One tiny part £9.99
Labour £45
Part of me is horrified. How much?! Another part of me ‘gets it’.
They have the know-how – they know exactly which part isn’t working.
They have the parts – they even have a spare part in for me.
They have the tools – to solder it on in an awkward space.
They have the training – to know how to use the parts, the tools, in the space as it is, and do it safely and get me back on the road, legally able to drive at night.
My half term plans are on again!
So it goes for you and me.
