“I Am Free to Choose My Thoughts”

“I am free to choose my thoughts”

‘People do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their futures’, said FM Alexander.  Here are a couple of recipes for you to either be miserable and degenerate; stay the same, or start changing your habits so that you can forge a new path for yourself.

Information and knowledge are useful.  Putting these into action is even more useful.  Committing to doing this action one, three, or ten times a day – then you’ll really start to notice the benefits.

As many of you know, one of Alexander’s major discoveries about us mammals is that the relationship between the head and spine govern the coordination of the rest of us.  Yes – all of us!  Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual – we don’t separate – its all one thing – our Self.

Life – 3 ways

Recipe for a Negative Cycle Sandwich

  • Decide that there is no point in doing this anyway, give up anytime, it is never going to work anyway.
  • Believe those who tell you there is something wrong with you.
  • Notice only what is wrong with your body, in your life and the world.  The more general and vague the bigger your despair.
  • Split yourself into separate parts – emotions, shoulders, mental, feet – the more the better.  Separate these with a hot sharp knife.
  • Add a pinch of cynicyssm.
  • Drain the last scrapings and make do with a meagre amount of No Choice thinking.
  • Using a course voice tell yourself you are not good enough, and never will be.
  • Repeat the cycle until you are thoroughly miserable.
  • Pile on a generous dollop of hopelessness and never ask for help.
  • Serve on your least favourite plate, preferably chipped, gobble it down and drizzle with a distracted manner.

Recipe for Staying the Same Soup

  • Preheat the television to your favourite channel.
  • Grease and line your mind with endless negative news.
  • Pre-decide that your goal isn’t worth any investment of your time or energy.
  • Keep suffering, you’ve put up with it for so long, why try anything different?
  • Don’t bother changing anything.
  • Stay in your comfort-zone (even if its actually uncomfortable).
  • Don’t make any actual decision, just carry on and hope that something somehow will change all by itself.
  • Don’t ask for help, or talk to anyone who could help you about your pain, restrictions or lost dreams.

Receipt for a Potage of Positive Possibilities

  • Swap your old ways of doing things for a dash of hope.
  • Line up your intentions generously.
  • Stir your mind with learning new things.
  • Find a coach, guide or mentor.
  • Fill your mind with a your goal for self-care and renew it often.
  • Open your mind and bring a dollop of kind curiosity to how you are right now.
  • Dress in your most comfortablist and favourite clothes every day.
  • Empty the scrapings of unhelpful thoughts as soon as you notice them come in. Stop.
  • Halve your distractions and double your constructive intentions.
  • Loosen your old ways and oil your joints with facts and new ways,
  • Choose how you can get to your goal AND look after your whole self as you do it.
  • Use a recipe for success.
  • Bring your curiosity and ask ask ask.
  • Use your favourite bowl to serve this in.
  • Savour each mouthful, life is precious, choose wisely.
